Can Science, Philosophy and Religion Save Humanity? (Part 1)
“The world is in crisis! Polarised politics, conflict, corruption, failed states, refugees, rampant levels of anxiety, loneliness and depression, family breakdown, drugs, fraught younger generations, environmental devastation. What’s the solution? Only the redeeming, reconciling and transforming biological understanding of the human condition can save [humanity] …” [Emphasis added.]
This advertising blurb, promoting Jeremy Griffith’s book FREEDOM, unashamedly employs significant Biblical terminology—redeeming, reconciling, and transforming—offering universal salvation to humanity, without Christ!
Salvation, it submits, can “Only” come by understanding the biological—the evolutionary—condition of man.
In Part 3 of an interview with Craig Conway [“The Interview That Solves the Human Condition and Saves the World!”], subtitled: “How did we humans acquire our instinctive cooperative and loving moral conscience?” [LOGIC! If that be the "instinctive ... loving" conscience of man why the "crisis ... conflict, corruption ..."? Can't have it both ways, Sir!] Jeremy Griffith is asked “… how were our bonobo-like ape ancestors able to become cooperative and loving, which ... must be the origin of our instinctive moral conscience that Darwin said distinguishes us from other animals?” [“Other animals” implying we, too, are animals!]
Griffith’s reply is a transparent admission of the gargantuan failure of evolutionary science to explain this “mystery”, but, he assures us, he has uncovered the secret solution to “save humanity”.
He responds to Craig Conway: “… how we acquired our moral instincts has been one of the greatest mysteries in biology. The primatologist Richard Wrangham described it as ‘A question that has lain unsolved at the core of biology ever since Darwin’ … And Darwin himself described it as the ‘one special difficulty’ with his concept of natural selection (On The Origin of Species, 1859, p.209 of 440). … the question is, how could such a selfish process as natural selection have created loving selflessness?...The answer is it was achieved in our forebears through nurturing.”
Griffiths then provides as a model of such a nurturing society the bonobo apes of the Congo! Says Griffith: “… bonobos are our closest living relatives, as mentioned they share 99% of our DNA. So we can see [How could he see it? Was he present during all that evolutionary period?] that bonobos provide the perfect evidence for how our distant ape ancestors became [i.e. evolved] cooperative and loving.” [The assumptive and deficient deductive reasoning is astonishingly mind-bending--but it is thoroughly evolutionary!]
Philosophically considered Griffith and this author are not able to “debate” the evolutionist vs creationist conundrum as our foundational premises are antipolar. Griffith’s arguments are speculative, theoretically assumptive and NON-PROVABLE—despite averring the opposite. After all, that is what evolution consists of: vain speculation! Griffith and his evolutionary colleagues, can, in defense, proffer the identical line of reasoning: the creationist’s arguments are speculative and theoretically assumptive. And ne’er the twain shall meet.
Evolutionary scientists reject out of hand the biblical creation narrative because they desire alternative gods. Man-made “gods” who demand no accountability, and have no immutable standards, ethics, and mores. These gods' values are submerged in the moral dereliction of their morally defunct creators, that is, man--the maker of many gods. Contrarily the creationist is committed to the Creator of man who demands accountable behavior based upon His immutable, everlasting LAW. Eternal judgment, based on that law, follows in the face of persistent and stubborn human defiance.
Seemingly a very sincere man, Griffiths, from a God-perspective, is, like all evolutionists, a highly deluded man. Imagine, taking as role model for solving the corrupt human condition, black Congolese baboons! But, that’s what happens to even highly intelligent people who succumb to and accept Satan’s “scientific” evolutionary theory as a model for their god-creationism which enables them to worship with FREEDOM OF CONSCIENCE at their altar of delusional intellectualism.
Of course, scientist Griffith, though aware of the Adamic history in scripture, vigorously denies God's only true way of salvation. Griffith, without saying so directly, claims–and is so hailed by his fellow baboon protagonists–that he and his teachings are replacements for Christ, the son of God, and His salvific teachings.
Griffith unabashedly replaces Christ and the Holy Word with his materialistic, profane, unspiritual, evolution-based scientific philosophy. He presumes to create a spiritual solution with nonspiritual biological rationalism. Ratiocination from the basis of evolutionary scientific atheism, and rejection of the Bible and its TRUE FREEDOM teachings, can only produce another heap of philosophic cognitive confusion and mental manure [the synonym of which he seemingly likes to use].
Jeremy Griffith claims to present insights that can “save the world” – sans logic, sans God, sans Christ, sans Scripture, sans Truth, and sans the Spirit! Bravo!
Griffith with his scientific philosophy presumes to present “the reconciling and psychologically healing biological explanation of our ‘good and evil’ stricken human condition ... it unravels the core mystery behind human behavior, thus ending suffering and conflict at its source—and providing the now urgently needed road map for the complete transformation of our lives and world.” [Emphasis added.]
His apparently “startling revelation” in the blockbuster book detailing “The Human Condition”, boasts a solution to the pathetic and destructive state of mankind. The crux of his thesis is faulty evolution and rebelliously antinomian. Scripturally considered, it is a deplorably untenable foundation for "human salvation"!
Griffith, using copious counterfactualisms and a deft philosophic amalgamation of ethics and pseudo-science—as pedantically persuasive and intellectually artful as it might appear—presents another scholarly attempt at misconstruing Eternal Truth, presuming to spearhead
a superior degree of personally CREATED moral
"FREEDOM" that will “save the world”.
The French have a highly descriptive word for it: Vraisemblance—the superficial outward appearance of being the truth. Satan is a skilled master at this form of deception. He has been duping humanity since Eden, and even today appears as an angel of light and life [2 Cor 11:14] while, in reality, he is the messenger of damnation and eternal death!
Griffith has some significant intellectuals supporting his claim, not least of which is the Former President of the Canadian Psychiatric Association, Professor Harry Prosen, who contributes to the fallacious folly and bold blasphemy with this endorsement: “I have no doubt Jeremy Griffith’s book FREEDOM provides the holy grail of insight we have sought for ... the psychological rehabilitation of the human race. … it is the book that saves the world.” [Emphasis added.] What a preposterous proposal! After 2000 years not even the Bible has saved the world! Something to ponder for a while.
No philosophy or religion rooted in evolutionary science can ever deliver man from his psychosis, his critically diseased human nature. According to Griffith: “… the angry, egocentric and alienated condition that emerged when we became conscious was a bad, evil, sinful state…”
Two great biblical truths undergird a true understanding of and solution to the issues raised by Griffith who professes to supply a “road map for the complete transformation of our lives and the world.”
The First Great Truth: There is a “science falsely so called” [1Tim 6:20]. That’s the “science” Griffith has espoused which prevents him from accepting and understanding God's truth about the “dilemma of the human condition”, the essence of the man’s corrupt nature.
In an amazing parallel with Scripture, Griffith allegorizes, defiles and defies the Edenic truth stating that, indeed, “… we humans have cooperative, selfless and loving moral instincts … which we call our conscience—which is the complete opposite of competitive, selfish and aggressive instincts...Of course,” Griffith continues, we “have acquired these … loving moral instincts [from] our distant ape ancestors [who] must have lived cooperatively, selflessly and lovingly, otherwise how else could we have acquired them? Our ape ancestors can’t have been brutal … savages as we have been taught, rather they must have lived in a Garden of Eden-like state of cooperative, selfless and loving innocent gentleness—which … is a state that the bonobo species of ape is currently living in, and which anthropological findings now evidence [?!] we did once live in.”
The twice emphasized “must have” assertions above are purely imaginary, speculative propositions. Jeremy Griffith and all his supporting academic ape admirers like bonobo zoo keeper, Barbara Bell, bonobo researcher Vanessa Woods, and Primatologist Sue Savage-Rumbaugh, were not there to witness such behaviors as factual evidence. Just because they believe [talk about having faith!] it to be so does not make it so. This belief is based on the observation of a currently isolated sub-specie of apes with whom a handful of primatologists seemingly have an amorous inter-specie relationship.
Explaining how the Genesis record fits into his ape-hypothesis [submerging and demeaning God and His Word to his highly opinionated flim-flam] Griffith opines: “… this story of Adam and Eve becoming conscious could only conclude that the angry, egocentric and alienated condition that emerged when we became conscious was a bad, evil, sinful state, but this [my, Jeremy Griffith’s] scientific presentation says, ‘No, no, that story [the Bible, God…] got it wrong.’ Adam and Eve are actually not just good but the heroes of the whole story of life on Earth [Griffith’s emphasis]—because surely the conscious mind is nature’s greatest invention and to be given the task [did “nature” give them the task?] of searching for understanding while the whole world’s condemning you, was the hardest and toughest of tasks—because that condemnation was universal.” [Emphasis added.]
Griffith unreservedly rejects the historically true Scriptural record of the Eternal creating Adam and Eve—making them “after His own image and likeness” [Gen1:26]. Thus, extrapolating from Griffith’s fictional perception of the actions of the bonobos, the creative force giving rise to man's conscious psycho-emotional-moral-instinct must have been a black, hairy, tree-swinging ape! What a creator!!
Paul understood the nature and motives of evolutionists prancing in black togas along the summit of secular academia when he exclaimed: “… when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain [Gr.: foolish, morally wicked] in their imaginations [Gr.: reasonings], and their foolish heart was darkened” [Rom 1:21].
Imagine subjugating the magnificence of the Person and the glorious Creation of the Maker and Master of the universe to the blind mindless ignorance of evolution. Did Darwin, the son of a clergyman, ever give his theory any repentant thought on his deathbed? Will Griffith?
Evolutionists seem quite satisfied having an “evolving” ape as their master model--their god!--after whose image they wish to create themselves. Were it not for the fact that man is combating Satan, the “god of this world”, the “prince of the power of the air”, this extraordinary incomprehensibility would have remained an everlasting enigma.
Evolutionists created their god after their own imag[e]ination! Modern evolutionary-minded man has not yet “evolved” spiritually from the stupidity and superstition of their pagan forebears who made images of animals and man to revere and worship!
Isaiah 44:9-20 contains a remarkable exposition of the futile and foolish inanities of mankind in creating images—whether physically or in constructing an academic curricula or philosophic schemata—which serve as their intellectual mud from which to fashion their Adam.
We extract a few salient sentences from this Isaiah-segment to illustrate what the Eternal thinks of such barefaced, unashamed human absurdity.
“They that make a graven image are all of them vanity [worthless] … they see not, nor know; that they may be ashamed. [It is] … profitable for nothing [except, today, for their own bank accounts] … all his fellows [associates] … shall be ashamed together … yea, he makes a god, and worships it; he makes a god, even his graven image: he falls down unto it, and worships it, and prays unto it, and says, Deliver me; for you are my god.”
Griffith declared that his "scientific god" will "deliver" him and the world! There will be no deliverance for humankind from Griffith’s biological edifice via bonobo ape-god exemplars! Because of the evolutionary theory mankind is generally reduced to miserable moronic minions and bamboozled buffoons in the hands of the “scientific intelligentsia”; they will even kill—and be killed—for “science”, as witnessed in the ongoing Covid pandemic—and major lawsuits yet to follow.
The Eternal Creator God speaks of them thus at Isa 44:18: “They have not known nor understood: for he have shut their eyes, that they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand … 20 a deceived heart hath turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul [neither with the bonobo ape theory nor any other clever cognitive constructs], nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand [deception, strongly clung to]?”
Isaiah reveals that type of perverse nature when he declares that they proclaim and promote the lies their minds have conceived and concocted [Is 59:13]; in this case to subject the truth of God to the speculative evolutionary surmising of another God-rejecting intellectual.
The Second Great Truth: The human condition--the core of the human heart, human nature--is “desperately wicked” [Jer 17:9], “full of bitter envying and strife” [James 3:13-15]. To solve the issues Griffith raises in his evolutionary philosophy, this hardened coiled core of corruption is to be solved. Griffith, though accepting this as a sine qua non, seeks, however, to resolve man’s corruption with ape "righteousness"! No amount of bonobo-based modelling will suffice to tame and change the corrupt human soul! Man, by observing apes, will not imbibe superior saintly behavior patterns. Man’s moral corruption will not find sanctity on the dirty grass beds of black hairy apes; neither find enlightenment nor enrichment for the human soul within ev[i]lutionary soiled science!
How might Griffith reach a solution for the conundrum he admits is a mystery? Will he be willing to consider the moral philosophy which will REALLY produce the highly desired sane, moral, good, peaceful, loving, cooperative society for which he hopes? Or, will he persist with the moral philosophy which he seeks to retrogressively re-engineer by having humans imitate an ape sub-specie with no retributive accountability for misbehavior?
The moral philosophy which honors and reveres a holy divine and all-powerful Creator God with eternal heaven and hell in His hands is neither imaginary nor man-made! The MAKER OF MAN has the ETERNAL SOLUTION to the MADNESS OF MAN!
THE CHOICE OF A PHILOSOPHIC-SCIENTIFIC SOLUTION TO THE MORAL SICKNESS OF MAN IS IRREFUTABLY OBVIOUS!
