Who were the First Law-breakers? Part III
In this post we will cover the commandments that Eve and Adam broke when the pair disobeyed the Eternal’s primary command not to eat of the forbidden tree, the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The Commandments they broke are set out in Exodus 20. As James informed us at chapter 2:10 that if you break one commandment you are guilty of breaking all of them! How did this principle work out in the ONE DISOBEDIENT ACTION on the part of our first parents? We will examine how each of the Ten Commandments were broken when Adam and Eve became the first human antinomianists when theydisobeyed the first command the Creator God gave them. These laws are enumerated at Exodus 20.
1st Commandment [verse 3]: “You shall have no other gods before [in place of] Me.” Having obeyed Satan they made him their master and god, thus disobeying the first commandment. They decided they knew better and in disregarding the spiritual laws God set in motion, they declared themselves above God's law and above God. [When we disregard or disobey any LAW of God we defy both His WORD and HIM.] So Adam and Eve had two idols: Satan and themselves! The Eternal was their creator, their God, their MASTER. By disobeying Him they defied his Godhood and deified Satan, making Satan their master, their god, and their lord.
3rd Commandment [verse 7]: “You shall not take the name of the LORD [YEHOVAH] thy God [ELOHIM] in vain [falsely or dishonestly]; for the LORD [Yehovah] will not hold him guiltless [innocent and unpunished] that takes his name in vain.” In averring that Yehovah said what in fact He did not say [See Part II for a full explanation], Eve falsely used the Eternal's name, or His authority. She broke the third command by using what his name represents, His authority, for a vain, selfish, dishonest purpose.
5th Commandment [verse 12]: "Honor your father and your mother: that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD [Yehovah] your God [Elohim] gives you." The Creator was also their parent. In disobeying his command they dishonored their parent, thus breaking the fifth command.
6th Commandment [verse 13]: "You shall not kill." Having caused the death penalty to be exacted upon them, Eve and Adam committed murder; firstly of themselves and then of the entire human race. See Romans 5:12.
8th Commandment [verse 15]: "You shall not steal." In desiring the fruit, Eve coveted, desired, or lusted after something forbidden thus breaking the tenth command. This lust resulted in taking illegally and eating the fruit thus breaking the eighth commandment, i.e.: stealing.
9th Commandment [verse 16]: "You shall not bear false witness against thy neighbor." Despite being confused about the tree, Eve told a lie when she said Yehovah said they must not eat of the tree in the middle of the garden. In saying that she broke the ninth command, bearing false witness. when you don't have your facts correct and pass them on as truth, you are, inadvertently or not, lying!
10th Commandment [verse 17]: "You shall not covet your neighbor's house, you shall not covet your neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is your neighbour's.” Eve coveted what was forbidden and then stole what she lusted after.
Gen 3:6 "And when the woman saw that the tree [which was not given to her and Adam as food] was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired [to lust after, to covet] to make one wise [smart, skillful, understanding things] she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat."
Eve lingered longer at the forbidden tree than was good for her soul. She looked upon it, desired it, lusted after it, took it and ate it. Adam was no better. In fact, God declares him the responsible party for , says Scripture he was standing beside her when she and Satan conversed about the appropriateness of eating the forbidden fruit. as her husband, protector and ruler--one with the God-appointed authority to stop her immediately. But like most men today he followed the "lead" of his wife to his eternal shame! Hence, from God's point of view, Adam bears the guilt. "Sin came into the world through one MAN, and death through sin..." thus, "in Adam all [humans] die" [Romans 5:12 and 1 Cor 15:22].
1 John 2:16 "For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world." Eve’s eyes and flesh lusted and in the pride of her deception [she was deceived, but Adam not hence he was more culpable (1 Tim 2:14)], conceived the first human sin ever committed. And, Adam followed suit! And, they both died.
Breaking ONE COMMAND made them the guilty of sin, and sin is the transgression of the law as a whole [1 John 3:4].
James 1:15 "When lust hath conceived, it brings forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, brings forth death." Sin is committed when man willingly embraces temptation. Eve did it first, and then Adam. But both were willing to embrace the ensuing lust but they failed to comprehend the consequences. People can choose to ignore their sin, but they cannot choose to ignore the eternal consequences of ignoring their sin.
Romans 5:12 "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned."
We are left with no other conclusion than that antinomianism, liberal theology, the “saved by grace alone” deception, despises the law and thus the person of the Eternal God. It wrought death upon all humankind. Today, over 6000 years later, the consequences of sin – law breaking, antinomianism – is still the same, DEATH! Philosophical and theological rationalization and justification cannot deliver from the effect of law-breaking, that being death.
There are teachers who defy the teaching of Christ, teaching He did away with the law. Yet he plainly said: Matthew 5:17 “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. 18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. 19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”
What will be your status in the kingdom of heaven? Will you enter the kingdom of heaven? Christ gives the answer plainly in Matthew 7:21-23:
Mat 7:21 “Not everyone that says unto me, 'Lord, Lord', shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?'
Many ministers will offer that as their right into the kingdom. Some will claim they performed great signs, miracles, wonders – making it rain in Cape Town, or “causing” a light breeze to blow in Engedi, or raising people from the dead. But what is Christ’s reply to such “miracle workers”?
Mat 7:23 "And then [at His return] will [He] profess unto them, 'I never knew you: depart from me, you that work iniquity" [Greek text: a-nomia, those without law, antinomianists!]. Even if you break ONE LAW you are a LAW-BREAKER, AN ANTINOMIANIST, A WORKER OF INIQUITY.
Considering this in conjunction with Luke 13:27 – “…depart from me, all you workers of iniquity..." The a-nomianists and anti-nomianists are the workers of iniquity, of unrighteousness, and of lawlessness. We have to ask ourselves: do we teach obedience to the law of God? If not, by what right can we expect to be in Christ’s everlasting Kingdom when he himself reject such teachers and their followers?
Christ’s final sobering and terrifying command to all persistent antinomianist teachers and preachers in Matthew 25:41 is: “Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire …” It's a command they can hardly disobey! And the consequences of which they can hardly ignore!
